Season 1, Episode 4: Eye of the Beholder

We actually meet Paige in the episode prior to this one, but it wasn't even worth mentioning because this episode just confirms what everyone suspects: yes, Paige is, in fact, a wretched harpy. The episode opens with what's actually a really sad scene of a chubby Terri totally fat bashing herself while her dad tries to tell her how gorgeous she is. This is not the last time that Degrassi would, ahem, almost make me cry. Anyway, back to the subject at hand, which is, Paige is a stupid bitch.
Terri hates her own body so much that she refuses to go to the dance and fails to see that Spinner is totally hitting on her, which means she must hate herself pretty bad, because Spinner has all the subtlety of a fucking freight train. Paige tries to make moves on him, knowing that someone as dumb as Spinner would submit to her every whim if he was put under the spell of her feminine wiles- unfortunately for her, Spinner is not into hoes. Ashley points out to Terri that Spinner can't actually read, so that borrowing her geography notes is just a ruse to talk to her.
Meanwhile, child convict Sean Cameron is introduced when he shoves Jimmy Brooks, Ashley's boyfriend, a lot. Emma likes him because Jimmy and Spinner have been pretty dickish to her and Manny up to this point, maybe? I don't know. Either than or his Canadian tuxedo. JT and Toby decide not to go to the dance so they can stay home and look at porn (seriously) and Manny's dad won't let her out at night if she isn't wearing her habit, so Emma has to go to the dance sans friends.
Ashley spends the day trying to convince Terri to go to the dance and hook up with Spinner, despite the fact that Terri having someone else in her life would end Ashley's free therapy sessions with her. Paige hovers around trying to convince Ashley not to encourage her and flipping her weave everywhere.
No one listens to Paige since she sucks, but Ashley allows her to come over to her house while she does Terri's hair and makeup anyway. Terri looks totally bomb and Paige knows she's screwed for sure, so when Ashley leaves early to decorate and berate younger student council members, Paige gets Terri all tramped up and drunk. Being nervous and kind of dim, Terri goes along with it without question, and shows up to the dance totally hammered. The whole time she thanks Paige for helping her, which would probably make someone with a soul feel super guilty. Alas, Paige wouldn't know about that, so she hangs around smirking and telling Spinner how she told Terri not to be such a lush, while Terri stumbles around and looks like an asshole. When Terri has run out to puke, Paige moves in for the kill. Spinner, who is easily confused and also a 14 year old boy, settles.
In the rest of Degrassi world, Emma dances with Sean and JT and Toby get caught looking at porn on Toby's parent's dial up. His parents , being totally awesome, make them watch gay porn to punish them for objectifying women, and also because they know that's what they actually want to be watching anyway. Being dumbasses, they tell Emma and Manny about it the next day, thus ruining their chances with the only girls even remotely likely to do them forever. It's just as well, since the seed of doubt has already been planted.

Season 1 Episode 3: Family Politics

Episode opens with Ashley Kerwin, neurotic perfectionist, talking about her unopposed run for class president on the phone to sweet chubby best friend Terri. We soon find out that this poor soul is forced to live with none other than obnoxious ass hobbit Toby. Bickering ensues with frequent mention of family therapy, and within two minutes it becomes obvious this family has serious issues. Later, at school, Toby reveals his intention of ruining his stepsister's life by convincing J.T. to run against Ashley for president by playing into JT's attention whoring ways. It works a little too well when JT actually starts getting votes based on his promises to obtain softer TP for the asses of Degrassi students.
Ashley, being an emotional trainwreck, immediately starts to crack under the pressure. She tries to bribe JT to drop out of the race, revealing the seedy underbelly of junior high politics. Toby naturally loses his shit and threatens to expose Ashley to the whole school, before figuring out that he's already broken Ashley's spirit long ago with his insufferable douchebaggery and that contiuing to cause her pain would just be boring at this point. Ashley wins president after all and informs Toby that she no longer wants to brutally torture him. Toby discovers that he's been fucking with someone who has serious emotional problems and counts himself lucky that his election meddling didn't cost Ashley the presidency, since it probably would've meant the end of his life via murder-suicide. Smart move indeed, Issacs.

Totally rape-tastic first episode(s): Mother and Child Reunion 1 and 2

Oh shit! In the very first episode, Degrassi: The Next Generation sets the precedent of totally fucking going there by addressing the issue of internet sexual predators. We start with the introduction of the fedora loving pre-teens Emma and pre-whoredom Manny reading a message from Emma's "12 year old "online boyfriend who appears to have fetal alcohol syndrome (Really, internet baby rapist? Poor effort.) I think had I not told you, you would still know where this is going. Obnoxious J.T. and Toby are introduced and immediately bond based on being totally insufferable and their stint in summer camp for kids whose parents hate them or whatever. Both discover they would want to do Manny if they were physically capable.
The show goes on to introduce the characters from Degrassi, the first generation. Nothing super important other than we find out that Spike, who got teen pregnant in the first series, is Emma's mom. Degrassi Jr High toolbox Joey Jeramiah is selling used cars and has a totally dead wife, while fellow junior high toolbox Snake (aka Mr. Simpson) is teaching at his former school, bleak. Caitlin Ryan is now a successful reporter with tragically shitty judgement, as evidenced by her engagement to a hilariously douchey L.A. producer (He wears sunglasses inside!). Joey can still hardly conceal his boner for her after all these years. Pre-reunion boozing leads to drunkedness and hurt feelings after about ten minutes, and the party goes back to Spike's house. Emma makes the fatal mistake of asking drunk Caitlin for advice in vague terms and decides to meet her myspace sexual predator boyfriend.
The next part starts with Emma lying to Manny about going to meet with sexual predators in her totally badass dolphin pants. Spike is at her high school reunion, where dramz ensues when Joey discovers douchey L.A. boyfriend trying to mack on some skanky supporting character. The whole thing climaxes with punching, tears, and Caitlin confiding to doormat Joey how much of a trainwreck she is, which we all already know. Meanwhile, Emma goes to some creepy ass hotel and is lured upstairs by the child predator under the guise of him being her internet boyfriend's teacher. Luckily, he's the slowest moving rapist ever, and spends most of his time creating incriminating video evidence, so suspicious Manny, JT and Toby are able to hack into her computer and discover her location before any actual raping takes place. They get to the reunion just in time to cock-block Mr. Simpson, who is dancing with Spike, and the two speed off to the hotel to save Emma, leaving her friends in the street. Mr. Simpson totally chokes the sex predator. His mood with Spike is ruined by pedophilia being a buzzkill, but he earns points for later. Spike yells at Emma for associating with any child predator who pretends to have an environmental petition, Emma yells at Spike for getting knocked up with her at 14 ("You've made mistakes, too, like having me!" OH SNAP), and both cry together about the trauma of TV14 rated molestation.
